DMR looks further into boating accident
HANCOCK COUNTY — An investigation is continuing into a weekend accident that took the life of a 10-year-old girl on the Jourdan River, but few additional details were available Monday. Funeral services were held in Bay St. Louis on Monday afternoon for Madison Camille Karno, a Waveland resident and student at Coast Episcopal School in Long Beach. She died last Friday afternoon while being towed on a raft by a boat on the river, in the vicinity of McLeod Park in Hancock County. Hancock Coroner Norma Stiglet said the boat pulling the raft reportedly made a turn in the river and the girl was thrown out of the water. Karno died of a head injury suffered in the accident, Stiglet said.

Marine Patrol officers with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources responded to the accident. But a patrol official said Monday that further details — including the identity of the boat operator, or possible injuries caused to others by the accident — had not been released. “No more information is available at this time, other than that we did respond to the call,” said Lt. David Dollar, a Marine Patrol supervisor on duty Monday. Posted at www.sunherald.com on July 6, 2009
