Gulfport adds another Dallas flightBy: Mary Perez While airlines are cutting back on service in some markets, a fourth daily flight between Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport and the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport is being added. The expanded service starts Aug. 25 on American Airlines/American Eagle. The additional flights will leave Gulfport at 10:55 a.m. daily and leave Dallas for the Coast at 11:10 a.m. “Receiving a fourth flight to Dallas proves the strength of our market in South Mississippi,” said Travis Lott Jr., chairman of Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport Authority. “This new flight will offer better connectivity for our passengers to the West Coast and beyond.” The new flights also continue the expansion of service at the airport despite the slow national economy: n In March, early morning and late night flights between the Coast and Charlotte, N.C., on US Airways were resumed. n Beau Rivage Resort and Casino teamed with Allegiant Air to offer non-stop flights from St. Petersburg, Fla., and weekly charters on Vision Airlines. n On June 1 Continental Airlines began nonstop service to Tampa and Jacksonville, Fla. There has been direct service from Tampa in the past, but Jacksonville is a new market for Gulfport. n Starting July 8, Southern Skyways will begin nonstop service from Atlanta three days a week in partnership with the IP Casino Resort and Grand Casino Biloxi.
