Biloxi is located in Harrison County and is approximated to have a population of 50,000 people as of the year 2000. Biloxi is co-county seat with Gulfport. The Biloxi beachfront lies directly on the Mississippi Sound, with barrier islands scattered off the coast and into the Gulf of Mexico. The Keesler Air Force Base is located in Biloxi and is home to the 81st Training Wing of the U.S. Air Force.

D'Iberville
D'Iberville is located immediately north of Biloxi. D’Iberville was one of the Gulf-Coast cities hit by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. As a result on an initiative by the Congress for the New Urbanism, D’Iberville received town design consulting services from some of the most prestigious urban designers in the country. Since then, the city has been working on implementing its master plan for its downtown area and neighborhoods.

Long Beach
Long Beach is located in Harrison County and was incorporated in August of 1905. As of 2000, the city was home to approximately 17,000 people.

History
The Gulf Coast of Mississippi was originally explored by Pierre LeMoyne d'Iberville in 1699. The King of France sent him to claim the piece of land. With a small troop, he sailed into Biloxi Bay and established Fort Maurepas. Over the years the Mississippi Gulf Coast changed hands many times, first home to the Biloxi Indians, then d'Iberville’s French, and there are even traces of some Spanish rule.

Harrison County is home to approximately twenty parks and boat launches. The Parks and Recreation Department of Harrison County are dedicated to providing outstanding recreation facilities for everyone. This is the 17th Annual Winter Rod Run. There will be anywhere from 200-500 “Pre 49 vehicles”, music, T-shirts, games, a cake walk, pet parade, and much more family fun!

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a community celebration of birds, birding, and spans all of the United States and Canada. Participants can take part where ever they are. Observers simply count the highest number of each species they see during an outing or a sitting, and enter their tally on the Great Backyard Bird Count web site! Join with thousand of others to find out how many birds are being seen in your area and across the continent this winter!

2nd Annual Mardi Gras Bed Race http://www.mardigrasbedrace.org
The Mardi Gras Bed Race is one of the most exciting events on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Entrants decorate a bed complete with headboard, footboard, mattress, blanket, and pillow with silly themes. There is plenty of music, crawfish, and activities taking place after the race.
